Our Story So Far

In 2017, against a backdrop of increasing awareness of the critical role played by the first 1001 days in child development, Viv Allen founded DorPIP, driven by a vision to create a society where infants can flourish through attuned parenting. With a modest seed funding of £33,000, DorPIP embarked on a mission to strengthen parent-infant relationships. The initial year saw the charity meet its objectives providing care to 10 families, sowing the seeds for what would become a transformative journey.

In the following years, DorPIP experienced remarkable growth, expanding its outreach beyond the county of Dorset to encompass surrounding areas in Wiltshire, Devon, Hampshire, and Somerset. DorPIP’s dedication to its objectives led to strategic partnerships, including collaboration with PIP UK and membership in the Association for Infant Mental Health (AIMH). DorPIP's founder, Viv Allen, became a lecturer at Bournemouth University, spreading awareness about the significance of first relationships in promoting infant brain development.

Year three brought unforeseen challenges as the pandemic unfolded. However, DorPIP persisted, doubling its support to families both online and in person when permitted. The team's resilience was evident in their fundraising efforts, overcoming obstacles to raise £1293 through a 5k inflatable obstacle course. DorPIP's commitment to education and advocacy remained steadfast, with 94 health professionals educated about infant mental health and several collaborations, including an educational film on parent-infant relationships.

Navigating Challenges

DorPIP’s founder, Viv Allen, was honored with the AIMHigh Award for her commitment to raising awareness of Infant Mental Health. DorPIP's impact extended further with an increase in clinical staff and the receipt of the Charitable Excellence Award.

Recognition and Expansion

(2021-2022)

Year five showcased DorPIP's commitment to innovation with the introduction of three new services, catering to growing identified needs. The adoption of ZOHO for better administration and data analysis further streamlined operations. Recognition continued with the Cybersecurity Award and a second Charity Excellence Award. DorPIP expanded its services to neighbouring councils like Southampton, reflecting the charity's commitment to reaching as many families as possible.
